Feeder port cover

Feeder Port Cover

The feeder ports do really well at keeping mice out.  Especially if you make sure to keep the feeder on a base that is smaller than the footprint of the feeder, so it hangs over a bit.  However, if you have rats, it’s a different story.  Several tests have shown that rats are able to get inside the feeder port holes.  You will probably want to cover them at night.  Yes, it is time-intensive, but it’s better than offering a free all-you-can-eat buffet.

I bought ports about a month ago & set up several feeders. I haven’t had any trouble with rodents, but most my feeders are up pretty high for my indio gigante birds. I got these port covers mainly for in the summer when our huge palmetto bugs are everywhere at night, as I’m sure they could crawl in feeders to eat feed at night. As with my 1st order, my ports & covers arrived quick!
